In a world increasingly focused on renewable energy solutions, Vekta Group emerged with a clear vision: to bridge the gap between technical innovation and practical implementation in the renewable energy sector. Our story is one of strategic growth and purposeful evolution.
Vekta Group was founded in 2017, initially providing grid and electrical expertise to renewable energy developers. In early 2020, we expanded our services to include comprehensive project management, engineering and financial modelling solutions, alongside developing proprietary digital tools to address industry challenges.
With decades of combined experience in renewables and software development, we continue to grow both our consultancy and software teams.

Founder & CEO
Charles Balderston
An experienced Engineering Project Manager specialising in electrical systems, with over 20 years' experience in energy and transport sectors.
Charles has overseen the development, construction and management of 2.5GW of offshore/onshore wind projects, alongside six years in the rail transport industry.
As a passionate entrepreneur committed to practical climate action, he founded Vekta Group and serves on several industry working groups, including National Grid GSR020, Cigre 66kV and ORE Catapult ELECTRODE.

Mark Lawson
A Chartered Engineer with over 30 years' experience in power systems engineering, Mark brings extensive expertise in renewable project management and technical due diligence.
His renewable energy career began with the UK's first major offshore wind project, North Hoyle.
He has managed teams of over 50 engineers, supporting diverse renewable projects including offshore wind, onshore wind, solar and energy storage.

Iona Guild
With over five years' experience in procurement and contracts management within renewables, Iona specialises in multi-contract, EPCI and tier-2 open book tendering strategies.
Her modern languages background enhances our global Gosupply chain collaboration, promoting sustainable sourcing worldwide.She holds a CIPS Diploma in Procurement and Supply and an APM Project Management Qualification.
Senior O&M Engineer
Gordon Thomson
A Project and O&M Engineer with over five years' experience in renewables and defence, Gordon specialises in developing and implementing new technologies, particularly in floating offshore wind.
He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, focusing on next-generation renewable technologies for wave energy generation.
Gordon leads the development of Vekta's proprietary software tools and manages various consultancy projects across fixed/floating offshore wind and HV transmission hubs.
Chief morale officer
Olive
Our Edinburgh office's resident working Cocker Spaniel, Olive brings exceptional people skills to the team.
She promotes workplace wellness through encouraging regular breaks, maintaining clean desk policies and facilitating lunchtime walking sessions.
With her natural ability to reduce stress and boost team morale, she has become an invaluable member of our office-based team.
